A FEW SHORT CHIPS...

--- Last Sunday, while Rori McIlroy was taking over #1 in the world by withstanding a charge from the former and longest reigning #1, 134 golfers were enjoying a great day at Elk City Golf & Country Club, many of them not caring whether they made a four or multiples thereof, they just wanted to enjoy the great weather.

--- Reminder to all Club Members: Reserve a Tee Time! It is your privilege which comes in handy on busy days.... and helps us help you better!

--- Time for High School golf! You can see the range full of youngsters every afternoon. The school will host their yearly invitationals on April 4 (girls) and April 11 (boys). Expect a good season as the "top four" are very good players and already practicing hard: Berek Dyson, Logan Gore, Joby Gray and Keegan Hall. First tournament is in Lawton next week! For the record, in winds of 25 mph and gusts of 35-40, there was only one played who scored under 40 in the first qualifying round: Joby Gray had a 34.

--- Range memberships are available for purchase or renewal. For Club Members a single membership is only $150, $200 for a couple and $250 for family of 3. Non Club Members pay an up charge of $50 per membership. We have begun to replace 160 dozen of older range balls with newer balls.

--- We now have a website, the web address is http://elkcitygolf.com. Visit and give us your opinion, suggestions and corrections. It is the goal of the club's board, to promote golf and our golf course in as many ways as possible.

--- This year we will resume the "Demo Day" that our friend and former club pro, Cory Smith, used to host. So far we have five golf club companies who have accepted: Adams, Titleist, Ping, Tour Edge and Cleveland Golf. We will let you know of any additions or changes. The date is April 17 (the first Tuesday of Men's Scramble this season) and it starts at 2:00 p.m. In addition to hitting demo clubs, Titleist and Ping will offer 1/2 hour club fitting appointments. You need to call the pro-shop to reserve your slot.

--- Are you a serious golfer? Join the GHIN system to track your handicap! A USGA handicap lets you know not only how you compare to others, but how are you doing "against" yourself: are you improving or not? It is the right thing to do.

--- Coming up this week: Don't forget to call Joyce Ellis on March 8 on her 81st birthday. Mrs. Ellis was James Ellis' right hand for all those years that he served you while paving the path for the likes of Cory and myself. I guarantee you, I can relate to Mr. Ellis: him without Joyce and me without Ramona, could not possibly operate to a full range of services. Happy birthday!!!! (and thank you for your time!)

--- Time for regrips! We have a large selection of grips in stock. If we do not have your favorite, we'll get it in a couple of days.

--- After "Demo Day" (April 17), we will designate two weeks in which we will help you sell old clubs. Details in April.

--- Last, but not least: we appreciate your business. Sincerely and truly. We are deeply grateful for the local support of the pro-shop and vow to continue to offer as many products at the best prices possible. If we don't have it in our small shop, we can get it soon!
